iOS and Android Apps in Development
Galapagos Prime™ 5 years in the making. . . an app based on natural selection. Help keep your family of organisms alive as they eat, sleep, run, hide, hunt and, hopefully, multiply. Your creatures are autonomous, each with their own unique DNA that allows them to pass on their traits to their offspring. You can influence their decisions (including who they choose as mates) but you can't change their genes. Be careful how you use your influence. In an ever-shifting environment, it's hard to say which traits will be a benefit and which will be a hinderance in future generations. You might encourage the cutest creatures to have the most offspring, which is fine, but if they can't swim fast enough to get away from predators or aren't smart enough to effectively harvest food from the environment . . . game over man! Like real-world natural selection, there is no "evolutionary objective". Being big or strong or smart is only useful if it allows you to thrive and produce offspring. Sometimes little, slow and dumb wins. Galapagos Prime will leave players with a more intuitive sense of how natural selection works ; what it is and what it isn't. While predators, random mutations and random environmental events will influence the results of natural selection. The process of natural selection in anything but random. |
